Meet the Owls

Acousmatik System is a Lebanese non-profit organization responsible for cultural exchange in music accompanied by various art forms.

We aim to expose local talents to the outside and vice versa. Our goals manifest through introducing electronic and experimental music production to the Lebanese audience and exposing alternative local art to both Lebanese and foreign scenes. We seek to establish connections in these circles to widen our fleet and defy the mainstream activities imposed by our rotting society. We target the underground scenes beyond borders, and intend to stay underground.
We create, gather, develop and promote opportunities for the scene to participate in all our activities.

We have chosen the owl to represent us, for its emitting of acousmatic sounds and appearance at night. Since our mission targets the underground scene and plans to raise awareness towards unseen corners, the streets of Beirut starting by Hamra’s suburbs are definitely a fertile ground: Our stenciled owl has been sprayed all over Beirut around seven hundred times, not because we like big numbers, but because we want to invade the city with change, we want new blood to flood.

Late at night we’d crawl into the streets, marking a new and provocative presence: We wanted the scene to be alarmed, we started a revolution our way, why we spread the owl in the streets little by little and not all at once; creating thus a curious happening that works as a teaser and a build up together, until the revealing in the launching event, April 2009.

Today, and after the achievement of sixteen events that broke through in an innovative way in terms of locations, content and crowd, the collective’s owl has successfully spotted the light on experimental art and music, be it foreign or local and together merged.

Acousmatik System is set by a group of people who strongly believe in underground music and its developement in the Lebanese scene. Meet the Owls behind the scene:
