The Owl Interview with The Teknoist
1-Could you start off by telling us about yourself a bit?
Im Miike… and i love to make noise.
2-How did you come to music?what is your musical background?
I began as a dj when I was 13 years old, my best friends dad was a northern soul dj.. and he had a set of technics 1200s, I could never afford a pair so we used to all go round there as a crew and mix old rave/techno/hip hop records.. we did this for years even when we bought our own turntables, until then I used to use the single turntable ontop of a tiny mini hifi I had at home and use the volumes as a fader haha… good times.. I then wanted to make my own music as a lot of what I was hearing didn’t quite grab me as it should, there were some great records… but not enough!
3-Is there anyone who inspired you to set up your own project?
Dolphin was the main reason I did most things musical, he was the only one that constantly produced close to the sound I wanted to hear and the only one who on a personal level cared for music in the way I did… I set up Ninja Columbo initially just to release both our tracks as we sort of didn’t fit on main other labels..
4-What was the best collaboration for you?
Again it has to be Dolphin, we could just sit down and bounce off one another and more importantly have the most amount of fun when writing together… close to that id say Scheme Boy, when we connect we really let the flood gates open… we just havent had the time to do it properly recently.
5-Whats in your opinion the best release you had so far?
Its not really for me to say, the 1st Ninja Columbo was obviously a high point.
6-What is the best gig your performed at? What do you think of “Mad Parade”?
Its hard to say, i have a few that are definitely the best like Bong-Ra’s wedding, Glade festival, the 2nd Ammunition party… Mad Parade, is definatley up there… as an experience as whole, the people (both organizer and raver) were amazing.. its encouraging to see a scene so young and hungry for fresh sounds and music, theres a lot of cynicism in me recently but this is one of the few parties of late that has really given me hope.
7-What do you think of the lebanese crowd?is it different from the crowd you usually perform for?
It’s the same really, well the same as a good crowd here… the people that want it stay to the end and really show that they love the music if they do.. if theyre not so keen you notice that also, thankfully they seemed very keen
8-Whats the thing that is going to remind you the most of Lebanon?would you reconsider coming again?
Im waiting for my invite! Im dying to come back… BRING ME BAAAACK!! this time id like to stay for a week or something and maybe play a couple of house parties aswell and get to hang more at the beach and see the city more.. that and speak to some of the great people I spoke to at the party again and see what they think of the scene there now as they were watching it grow when I last spoke to them.
9-Any message that you would like to send to the scene in Lebanon
GET ME BACK THERE!! Haha… oh and keep on supporting parties like this, don’t turn lazy like a lot of countries do. You can download FREE Mp3s and normal releases from my website aswell as check my travel diary and news:
